‘Your body, my choice’: Abortion sympathizers confronted about mandates
Americans who have spent the last two years fighting against undemocratic rule are now evoking COVID-19 mandates in response to the “my body, my choice” trope.
Abortion sympathizers are reviving the conversation about bodily autonomy following a leaked draft of a United States Supreme Court majority opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade. If Roe v. Wade were overturned, it would bar the federal government from subsidizing or funding abortions.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the draft of the majority opinion. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”
News of the unprecedented leak has sparked outrage across the nation that the highest court in the land is being intimidated to enact certain laws.
“It’s impossible to overstate the earthquake this will cause inside the Court, in terms of the destruction of trust among the Justices and staff,” wrote SCOTUSblog. “This leak is the gravest, most unforgivable sin.”
But abortion sympathizers are enraged that the Supreme Court would rule against federalized abortion, once again trumpeting the right to bodily autonomy despite years of pushing for forced vaccinations and masking.
In Joe Biden’s statement responding to the leak – which did not mention the leak – Biden railed against the Supreme Court’s opinion, beginning by saying that his administration had always been "against government interference with intensely personal decisions.”
“First, my administration argued strongly before the Court in defense of Roe v. Wade,” he said. We said that Roe is based on ‘a long line of precedent recognizing ‘the Fourteenth Amendment’s concept of personal liberty’… against government interference with intensely personal decisions.”
Abortion sympathizers are now once again chanting “my body, my choice” outside the Supreme Court, which was cordoned off by law enforcement shortly after the leak.
But many who witnessed the same people cheering for unconstitutional mandates over the last two years are calling them out.
“Every spoiled rich kid in this video chanting ‘my body my choice’ was in favor of: Mask mandates, vaccine mandates, child vaccine mandates, vaccine to work mandates, social credit scores. So stfu,” wrote political commentator Benny Johnson above a video of the protesters outside the Supreme Court.
