VICTORY: DOJ reluctantly drops charges against doctor who exposed hospital’s child mutilation
The Department of Justice on Thursday dropped its case against Dr. Eithan Haim, the surgeon who exposed Texas Children’s Hospital for secretly subjecting kids to medical mutilation.
Haim faced a 10-year prison sentence after revealing that Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) was administering puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to children even after promising state authorities to end that practice. Texas views such procedures as a possible form of child abuse given their tendency to cause irreversible damage like sterility and castration. While gender activists refer to these procedures as “gender-affirming care,” ethical doctors refer to them as medical mutilation.
After Dr. Haim teamed up with journalist Christopher Rufo and exposed the hospital in 2023, TCH shut down its gender clinic and state lawmakers passed a ban on medical mutilation. But it also placed Dr. Haim in the crosshairs of the Biden DOJ, which launched a legal onslaught against the surgeon and his family. After armed agents visited Haim and his wife Andrea at their home, the DOJ indicted him on four counts of HIPAA privacy violations even though he had not published any identifying patient data. The trial was set for next month, though the DOJ has been unable to clearly define the crime Dr. Haim allegedly committed.
On Thursday, the DOJ reluctantly filed a motion to dismiss the case against Dr. Haim. US Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery had hoped to continue with the trial but ultimately relented under pressure from lawmakers like Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), according to the Daily Wire. The DOJ would have also faced an uphill battle in light of President Donald Trump’s executive order last week recognizing only two genders.
‘We would do it again in a heartbeat’
In an emotional X post on Friday, Dr. Haim’s wife Andrea celebrated the news, saying the ordeal “came at great personal cost.”
“Between the two of us, we have had hundreds of sleepless nights worried that he would go to federal prison for 10 years,” she said. “We are completely broke. He was forced to leave me and his newborn baby daughter in the hospital an hour after I had an emergency c-section to make a court appearance in Houston.”
“But if you ask either of us, we would do it again in a heartbeat,” she continued. “Because of Eithan, the world is a better place for children, including our daughter. There is no greater gift we can give her than the knowledge that her daddy is a hero.”
Andrea added that her husband “was a hair's breadth away from federal jail and a show trial that would make Stalin blush.”
“But for now, we are going to end this ordeal the same way we started it,” she concluded. “The first day the federal agents came to our home on the day of his graduation in June 2023, we didn't cower in fear. We sat on the balcony, drank champagne, and planned our war strategy. Today is for celebrating, tomorrow is for accountability.”
The Haims have spent over $1 million defending themselves against the Biden DOJ.
