Reports of healthy, young people dying unexpectedly continue to pour in daily, a phenomenon the media and their doctors are dismissing as Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).
Out of the many cases sent to Frontline News this week, we have chosen a small handful to include in this report to help shine a spotlight on these ‘unexplained’ deaths.
Allison Hess
An Emporia High 10th grader has unexpectedly passed away and the school district is now offering grief support to the community.
Allison Hess, the daughter of Kari and Eric Hess of Emporia, died Thursday, The Emporia Gazette reports. They say that the circumstances surrounding her death have not been revealed. – Kake.com
Megan Stoesser
Buffalo Grove High School is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old student who unexpectedly died in her sleep at her home over the weekend, officials said.
Buffalo Grove High School Principal Jeff Wardle sent a message to students and parents on Monday about the death.
“It is with profound sadness that we share information with you about the loss of one of our students,” Wardle said. – Lake & McHenry County Scanner
Matt Pobereyko
Former MLB minor league pitcher Matt Pobereyko has died at the age of 31 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Chicago.
The former New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins pitcher played as recently as this month in Mexico, and was described by his family as 'perfectly healthy' in the aftermath of his shock death. – Daily Mail
Ryan Keeler
UNLV defensive lineman Ryan Keeler has tragically died ... the school announced the redshirt freshman football player passed away on Monday.
He was just 20 years old.
Keeler died in Las Vegas, according to the university ... but no other details surrounding his death have been revealed. – TMZ Sports
Jamie Cail
A former United States swimming star has died suddenly at the age of 42 years old.
Jamie Cail, a former U.S. swimming star, died in the Virgin Islands last week.
"According to the United States Virgin Islands Police Department -- Cail, who won a gold medal at the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships, was found unresponsive in St. John by her boyfriend on Feb. 21 just after midnight. – The Spun
Brett Radin
Brett Radin, a longtime music manager who recently joined Knitting Factory’s in-house management division, died at his home on Friday, a rep for the company confirms to Variety. Caused [sic] of death has not yet been confirmed; he was 53. - Variety
Dan Lamothe
It’s been 48 hours since I heard the news, and I still can’t believe it. Dan Lamothe—son, friend, barber, volunteer fireman, ex-bassist and founding member of Stellar Corpses—has died. Even now, as I write this, I can’t wrap my head around it and have difficulty typing through blurry eyes. I’ve been lost in a fog of shock and denial; calls to and from friends across the county and country, drenched in an endless downpour of tears. I never knew I could cry so much.
He died suddenly while training in Ben Lomond to be a firefighter, wanting to give back to the community that gave him so much. Dan—”Mothman,” “Mothy,” or “Big Moth,” as his friends affectionately called him—was only 38, an age that defies all rational explanations of what happened. – Good Times
Kris Jordan
Ohio State Representative Kris Jordan died unexpectedly Sunday at the age of 46.
Rep. Jordan was a Republican from Delaware County and in his third term as a State Representative. He previously served in the State Senate for eight years.
State Senator Andrew Brenner said in a Facebook post that Jordan died of natural causes. He paid tribute to his longtime friend, saying they created the first Teenage Republican Club in Delaware County, of which Jordan became the first president. – 13ABC
