Magazine cuts out Black people to make Republicans seem racist
New York Magazine cropped Black people out of a photo for a recent story that suggested Republicans are White supremacists.
The cover story, titled “The Cruel Kids’ Table,” focused on a party at Butterworth’s restaurant and bar in Washington, DC in honor of President Donald Trump’s inauguration last week. The article was subtitled “Out late with the young right as they contemplate cultural domination” and in at least three places complained there were too many White people at the party. “Have you noticed the entire room is white?” an attendee reportedly asked. “Everyone is white,” the author wrote. The magazine’s cover photo featured several young celebrators smiling and celebrating at the event, none Black.
‘Left me out of their story’
But Black attendees were there — the magazine just cropped them out. They include the party’s organizer, CJ Pearson, who is co-chair of the RNC National Youth Advisory Council. Pearson posted on X that not only had New York Magazine excluded him, but the publication also tried to hide the attendance of Black celebrities like professional boxer Gervonta Davis and rapper Waka Flocka Flame.
“This is insane,” Pearson wrote on X above the magazine photo. “I hosted this event and @NYMag intentionally left me out of their story because it would have undermined their narrative that MAGA is some racist cult. They also didn’t include the fact that @WakaFlocka and @Gervontaa were also there. You don’t hate the liberal media enough.”
An expanded photo shows several Black attendees standing just beyond the borders of New York Magazine’s photo.
Rob Smith, a Black conservative with Turning Point USA, said he was also at the party.
“I was at this party as were MANY other Conservative media influencers who are Black, Latino, Asian, etc,” he tweeted. “NY Mag used a whites only photo to push the media narrative that diverse Republicans don’t exist and weren’t welcome. You don’t hate the media enough.”
The article's author, Brock Colyar, goes by “they/them” pronouns.
