Gruesome Newsom’ promises freedom in new Florida campaign ad
California Governor Gavin Newsom is raising eyebrows with his new gubernatorial campaign ad, set to launch in Florida on Independence Day.
Newsom is best known for his startlingly harsh COVID-19 response, with California being one of only two states in the country to force schoolchildren to get injected with the COVID-19 shot. California’s tough lockdowns also earned it one of the lowest scores in its handling of the pandemic, faring worse than nearly all states in mortality, economy and education, according to a study.
While Newsom included California beaches and wineries in the lockdowns, he pointedly allowed his winery in Napa Valley to remain open, despite being indoors.
Newsom’s edicts made him so reviled that California citizens – who dubbed him “Gruesome Newsom” –were able to force a recall election vote, which he ultimately survived.
Due in part to Newsom’s policies, California residents are now so desperate to leave the state that some are migrating to Mexico. More than 360,000 Californians fled the Golden State in 2021 alone.
By contrast, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis placed no COVID-19 restrictions on the Sunshine State and ultimately saw "average mortality while maintaining a high level of economic activity and 96 percent open schools.”
But without a hint of irony, Newsom is trying to lure Floridians to California by promising freedom in a new campaign ad.
“It’s Independence Day. So let’s talk about what’s going on in America,” Newsom says in the 30-second spot. “Freedom is under attack in your state. I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight — or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom: freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate, and the freedom to love. Don’t let them take your freedom.”
“Gavin Newsom might as well light a pile of cash on fire,” Dave Abrams, a spokesperson for DeSantis’s re-election campaign told The Daily Wire. “Pass the popcorn for his desperate attempt to win back the California refugees who fled the hellhole he created in his state to come to Florida.
“The people of Florida pay no mind to the pathetic smear campaigns from the Democrats and their allies in the corporate media,” Abrams added. “We’re too busy enjoying the freedom Governor Ron DeSantis has created in the Sunshine State.”
DeSantis’ commitment to human rights throughout the pandemic earned him scorn from Hollywood, the mainstream media and the White House, and adoration from the people. DeSantis inspired rockstar brothers Johnny and Donnie Van Zant to compose “Sweet Florida”, and at least one straw poll has DeSantis beating Trump in the 2024 primary.
