2024 election results spark fresh concerns about 2020 election
Donald Trump’s election victory Tuesday night has sparked fresh concerns that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
As of this report, Trump has won 276 electoral votes to Kamala Harris’ 223. He also won the popular election with 71,630,210 votes while Harris received 66,743,061, totaling 138,373,271 altogether.
That number roughly matches the one in the 2016 presidential election, when approximately 138 million Americans voted.
An extra 20 million votes
In 2020, however, the number of voters jumped to 158.4 million, an increase of 20 million votes. Those 20 million voters, which went to Joe Biden, were absent from both the 2016 and 2024 elections, sparking questions across social media after Tuesday’s results.
“Kamala got 60 million votes in 2024,” wrote author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza on X. “Does anyone really believe Biden got 80 million in 2020? Where did those 20 million Democratic voters go? The truth is, they never existed. I think we can put the lie about Biden’s 80 million votes to rest once and for all.”
The Gold Report asked ChatGPT, which is known to parrot Leftist talking points, to explain the discrepancy.
“The increase in voter turnout was likely driven by expanded mail-in voting options due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a highly polarized political climate,” the chatbot claimed.
But when we explored further, this explanation became highly unlikely. Not only was the 2024 election more politically polarized, but there have not been drastic restrictions to mail-in voting policies. Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and Iowa introduced some changes to voting by mail such as reducing the timeline and the number of dropboxes. But states like Massachusetts, New Jersey, Illinois, and Washington expanded mail-in voting in some ways, while other states like California, Nevada, and Vermont made no-excuse absentee voting a permanent option.
In other words, neither the political climate nor the COVID-19 pandemic explain the sudden 20 million-vote surge in 2020, which had not been seen before or since.
“The funniest thing I’m seeing is Dems saying the election was rigged because there was huge turnout last night and there are 20 million less votes for Kamala. Lol,” actress and comedienne Roseanne Barr said. “They still think Biden got 81 million votes at 4 am. Trump is the most popular candidate of all time. He won three elections- two handedly in a row.”
Political commentator MAZE wrote: “Trump has gotten almost the same amount of votes as in 2020. Kamala has gotten almost 20 million fewer votes than Biden did in 2020. Quite a difference when the votes are counted on Election Day. Trump just won the Presidency for the third time.”
